Fantasy
Fantasy occupies a specific genre in fiction as it doesn’t need to be based on what is possible. The writers of fantasy move beyond the natural laws of reality often using magic, world-building, and creatures as the basis of the narrative. Many fantasy novels gain inspiration from myth, folklore, and legend and many have a distinct relationship to the ancient past. Fantasy is by its nature speculative fiction and it relies on the reader’s willingness to suspend disbelief. There are many sub-genres of fantasy but for our purposes, we are inclusive under this general term.
